Hafiz demands withdrawal in power tariff hikeApril 3, 2014
Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter amir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has demanded the government to withdraw the increase in electricity tariff in the larger interest of people. In a statement issued here on Thursday, Naeem-ur-Rehman strongly condemned the increase in electricity tariff and termed it injustice with the people and business community of Karachi.
He said that the people have already been facing poverty, unemployment and inflation due to weak policies of the government, adding that increase in electricity tariff in prevailing situation will definitely increase the plights of masses. Hafiz urged the government to take effective steps to overcome the power crises without burdening the power consumers. Despite decrease in the value of dollar and petroleum prices worldwide, the Pakistani government has failed to give relief to its citizens, he added.
He further said that Karachi was considered an economic hub of the country and increase in power tariff will certainly put a negative impact on the economy of the entire country. He demanded the government to take back the decision of increase in power tariff and also take cohesive steps for overcome the load-shedding in the city.
