KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has demanded starting immediate work on K-4 water project in order to overcome the prevailing water crises, created by the past and present governments.

Addressing a press briefing on water crises at a local hotel here on Monday, he said that Karachi with over 20million population needs 1250million gallons of water daily, but the citizens of the city only get 550million gallons of water daily, which shows negligence of previous and present provincial and federal governments.

He regretted that even a single drop of water was added for Karachi after the city government of former Karachi mayor Niamatullah Khan Advocate.

Hafiz Naeem said the estimated cost of K-4 water project was Rs16billion at that time but now it has escalated to Rs50billion due to the apathy of the rulers.

He suggested that desalination plants should be installed to overcome the water crisis. He said that a just distribution of water is imperative to resolve the prevailing crises while illegal selling of water through water hydrants should also be stopped.
