Health minister orders full-fledged immunization

KARACHI: Provincial Health Minister Sindh Dr Saghir Ahmed on Tuesday said district health officers (THOs) would be held reasonable for low routine immunization in districts across Sindh province and stern action would be taken against those who showed slackness in this regard.

He said while chairing a high-level meeting to increase the routine immunization & anti-polio campaign at his office. Member National Assembly Dr Azra Pechuho and Begum Shahnaz Wazir Ali were also present in the meeting.

Provincial health minister briefly reviewed the current situation of routine immunization in all the districts of Sindh province. He also strictly inquired about the reason behind unsatisfactory routine immunizations in different districts.

He said in case of resistance during polio campaign, the authorities concerned should launch special polio drive with cooperation of public representatives and dignitaries in order to protect children from polio and other diseases in these areas. He urged the commissioners and deputy commissioners to extend their role to increase vaccination coverage.

He stressed the need to fully activate lady health workers and vaccinators. He directed the officials to contact EPI authorities in case of difficulties in cold-chain storage of vaccination.

Secretary Health Iqbal Hussain Durrani, Project Director EPI Dr Mazhar Khamisani; representatives of World Health Organization, UNICEF, Rotary Club and Sindh’s THOs attended the meeting.
