Heatstroke death toll reaches 875 in Karachi

KARACHI: At least 875 people have died from heatstroke in Karachi since 20 June 2015, while fall in temperature reduced the number of heat-stroke patients in government-run hospitals on Wednesday.

As per data available, 315 people have been died from heat stroke in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center since 20th June, 147 people in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation-run hospitals, 110 in Civil Hospital Karachi, 34 in Qatar Hospital, 67 in Liaquat National Hospital, 20 in Aga Khan Hospital, 43 in Indus Hospital, 23 in Sindh Government New Karachi Hospital, 37 in Ziauddin Hospital, 55 in National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, 10 in Sindh Government Liaquatabad Hospital, 17 in Lyari General Hospital, three in Sindh Government Hospital Malir, two in Karachi Port Trust Hospital.

Joint Director, Jinnah Hospital Karachi (JPMC) Dr Seemin Jamali talking to media said 315 patients of heatstroke were brought dead or died in the hospital since 20th June 2015. She informed the number of patients has been reduced with the fall of temperature in the city.

She informed that over 8000 people affected from heatstroke were treated in her institution during last few days. She said that during the few days, mostly elderly patients with heatstroke were brought to the hospitals with high-grade fever and dehydration.
