Hepatitis vaccination camp starts in FUUASTAugust 25, 2014
KARACHI: Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme (Chief Minister Initiative) has started screening and vaccination of students of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology (FUUAST) which would be continued till 25 September 2014.
Around 5,000 students both male & female were screened and vaccinated during a month-long camp that was started on 25 August and will continue till 25 September 2014.
Vice-Chancellor FUUAST Prof Zafar Iqbal inaugurated the camp. Focal Person & Senior Monitoring Officer Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme Karachi Dr Kazim Raza Memon, Assistant Prof Microbiology Department Saher Afshan Naz, staff and students were present on this occasion.
The VC FUUAST welcomed the establishment of hepatitis camp in university and said it would help save students from contracting diseases in future. He appreciated the role of microbiology department and hepatitis programme for organizing hepatitis camp in university.
Dr Memon informed that 4000 students would be vaccinated against hepatitis B, while screening of 1000 would also be carried out in the camp. He said hepatitis programme would provide free of cost treatment facility to students. He said the camp would start from 10:00 am and continue till 1:00 pm from Monday to Thursday on daily basis. He said around 200 students would be vaccinated every day in hepatitis camp established at microbiology department.
Provincial Manager, Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme (Chief Minister Initiative), Dr Zahoor Baloch said program management had launched special hepatitis vaccination campaign throughout the Sindh province in phases after Eid-ul-Fitr and drive was successfully continued in province.
He said screening and vaccination would be carried out in Hyderabad’s jail on 10 September 2014. He said all the prisoners and staff would be screened and vaccinated during drive.
He informed monitoring officers of program had started special hepatitis vaccination campaign across the province and holding camps in different districts of province in phases.
He said although screening and vaccination centers had been established in almost every district of the province for hepatitis patients but organizing camp was the part of special drive to counter hepatitis disease.
Zahoor Baloch said Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme had successfully organized camps in Matli area of Badin district and Kot Ghulam Muhammad of Mirpurkhas district. He informed that in next phase, camps would be set up in Hyderabad, Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Karachi, while special teams have been dispatched in this regard. He said teams of program had successfully organized camps in high, city and Malir courts in Karachi in the past.
