Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has said that Pakistan will support Afghan Government for the dignified repatriation of Afghan refugees. For the purpose of documentation of unregistered Afghan refugees in Pakistan, NADRA, Government of Pakistan, Afghan Refugees Commissionerate and Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation Afghanistan will sort out the suitable and appropriate method.
He expressed these views here at Governor’s House in a high level meeting regarding the repatriation of Afghan refugees. Besides, a delegation of 9-members from Afghanistan headed by Minister of Refugees and Repatriation of Afghanistan, Syed Hussain Alemi Balkhi, the others participants of the meeting were Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak, Federal Minister SAFRON, Abdul Qadir Baloch, Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amjad Ali Khan, IG Police Nasir Khan Durrani, Home Secretary Arbab Mohammad Arif and other high officials were also present on the occasion.
Afghan Minister Hussain Alemi has expressed his gratitude to Government of Pakistan for hosting lacks of Afghan refugees in their country and said that the Afghan Government under the leadership of new president Ashraf Ghani has formulated a comprehensive program for the dignified return of Afghan refugees. He hoped that Pakistan Government will support Afghan Government in this program. The Afghan Minister also expressed his condolence over the tragic terror incident of Army Public School and said that whole of Afghan Nation was in deep shock on this incident.
During the meeting, Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has said that Government and People of Pakistan supported Afghan refugees during difficult and challenging time, which is unprecedented in the whole history. Pakistan wished for the peace and prosperity in the region and for this purpose, cordial and brotherly relations are very essential between the two countries. He appreciated the efforts of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani for taking steps for the dignified repatriation of Afghan refugees and ensured that Pakistan will fully cooperate in this regard.
Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan said that Pakistan is fully committed and will support international community, regarding repatriation of Afghan refugees. Moreover, he said that no crack down will take place against the registered Afghan refugees in Pakistan, However due to security concerns, of the present circumstances, action will be taken against unregistered residents on the land of Pakistan.
However, regarding the documentation of unregistered Afghan refugees in Pakistan, a committee will be set up. The members in the committee will be from NADRA, Commissionerate of Afghan Refugees, Pakistan, Government of Pakistan and ministry of refugees and repatriation Afghanistan (MORR). It was decided in the meeting that Afghan Government will ensure the dignified repatriation and resettlement, by involving international community and will arrange possible resources in this regard. Moreover, Government of Pakistan and UNHCR will support them.
