HIV patient wants proper treatment

KARACHI: The medical staff of Medical Unit-III, Civil Hospital Karachi, refused to properly attend a young man suffering from HIV infection over fear that virus may afflict staff, it was emerged on Monday.

Shahab a family member of 23-years-old HIV infected patient Karman son of Hazrat Khan said the patient was brought to the hospital about five days ago in medical unit-III but the duty staff refused to properly attend him due to fear. The family members of the patient complained of the non-cooperative attitude of medical staff to the in-charge of ward but to no avail.

He said due to non-cooperative attitude of staff, the patient’s cousin has changing drips and administrating injection to him.

He explained that Kamran was suffering from fever last few months and he was shifted to Lyari General Hospital for treatment about 15 days ago where he was diagnosed HIV patient. The administration instructed the family to shift the patient to Civil Hospital Karachi for better treatment facilities but still he has to get proper treatment.

However, Medical Superintendent (MS) of CHK Prof Dr M Saeed Quraishi said necessary directive has been issued to medical staff for proper treatment of the HIV patient. He said Additional Medical Superintendent of the hospital also met patient family and assured them that proper attention will be given to him in the ward.
