IEEEP to present govt recommendations to remove energy crises

KARACHI: Vice Chairman of the Institution of Electrical & Electronics Engineers Pakistan (IEEEP) Mohammed Asif Ali Siddiqui has said that recommendations for nuclear technology to remove energy crises will be presented to the government of Pakistan in a seminar to be held on 26th and 27th.

He was speaking at a press conference organized by IEEEP at a local hotel on Monday. Honorary Secretary Engineer Ahmed Zubair, Vice President (South) Ahmed Jafri, Convener Media Relations Zia-ul-Islam Zuberi were also present on the occasion.

Siddiqui gave details of the two-day event 29th Multi Topic International Symposium that will be held on 26th and 27th March 2014 at Zewar Lawn, PC Hotel. He said that in this event technical papers prepared by students of different universities will be presented and recommendations formulated by experts for usage of nuclear technology to end energy crisis will be forwarded to the government of Pakistan.

“In a session students, who claimed top three positions in the recently held student’s seminar on the topic “Are the proposed K-2 and K-3 nuclear reactors safe for Karachi?” at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology in Jamshoro, will present papers and discuss their projects. The students will be given cash prizes and gold & silver medals,” he said.

The government is in contact with China to purchase two nuclear power plants with a combined capacity of 2,000MW, which will be utilised for setting up Karachi Nuclear Power Plant-2 (Kanupp-2) and Kanupp-3 to tackle the energy crisis.

He said that nuclear physicist, essayist and defence analyst Dr Pervez Amirali Hoodbhoy, will discuss Karachi’s proposed nuclear power plant with other experts on 27th.

Engr Asif asked engineers, students, faculty and policy makers to register in large numbers for this symposium to keep abreast of challenges encountered by country and its solutions offered by eminent engineers and students in the event which is continuously being organized every year by IEEEP for 29 years.
