QUETTA: Measures taken against target killers and religious extremists by security institutions have resulted in improvement in satiation in Balochistan. But threat level still exists. Government and administration were at work to fully eliminate it.

This was stated by Inspector General Balochistan Police Ahsan Mahbub at his first meeting with journalists at Central Police Office here Tuesday.

He said under safe city programme cameras installed were functioning well. Another 209 cameras would be installed proposal of the government has been approved. He said four new police stations and six police posts would also be set up in the city.

He said threat level in Balochistan is double. One is religious and another is insurgency which continuously persists.

Answering a question he said police was not trained for counter terrorism. One and half years earlier we established a school in this regard and one thousand officials were trained. If this continues it would take 37 years to train entire police strength of37 thousand. We approached FC and Army for training of police men. There is need to speed it up.

Answering another question he said security of VIPs is responsibility of district Police. Threat level of security in Quetta has been very high. We would constitute security divisions in Quetta and Gwadar.

Referring to demoralization of police force IG Police said that owing to target killings there was great demoralisation. Incident of police line also created bad affect. But the way situation was improving hopefully morale would go up gradually.

He said situation in Balochistan has improved to great extent where in political people, civil society and media efforts also include. We are doing out strives so that routine life continues.

He said present situation in Balochistan was challenge for him but due to action of government, administration and security institutions against target killings, religious extremism situation improved greatly.
