IG Sindh urges coordinated efforts to curb crimes from society

KARACHI: The Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police, Ghulam Hyder Jamali, has instructed all units and branches of Sindh Police to discharge duties in close coordination to ensure elimination of crimes from the society.

He was addressing to range DIGs through Video Conference System reviewing law & order situation of the province and police performance.

He was informed that from 1st January 2014 up to now, in 2118 encounters with criminal elements throughout the province, 85 terrorists were killed, 32 arrested; 296 dacoits killed, 7389 arrested; 5 extortionist killed, 177 arrested; 20 kidnappers killed, 55 arrested and 3199 proclaimed offenders and 19460 absconders were apprehended. Police also nabbed red-handed 1871 other criminals and busted 692 criminal gangs during the reported period.

The chair was further informed that during the reported period throughout the province, police recovered four G-3 rifles, 255 SMGs/KKs, 611 repeaters, 116 shot guns/rifles, 6422 pistols/revolvers, 15 live bombs, 16 rocket launchers, 377 grenades, 8 IEDs, 11 suicide jackets and 517 kg of explosives.

“In Karachi alone, police recovered 515 kg of explosives, 102 SMGs/KKs/G-3, 48 shot guns/ repeaters, 55 rifles, 4356 pistols/revolvers, 11 suicide jackets, 15 live bombs, 18 IEDs, 16 rocket launchers, 372 grenades and 2 detonators, during the stated period”, AIG operations, Sharjeel Kharal said.

IGP apprised himself of the problems confronting to professional responsibilities and directed range DIGS to submit practical recommendations at the earliest. He also issued directives to ensure effective advance information collection to shun the possible evil activities of terrorists/criminal elements.

“Pro-active policing is must to provide security to lives and properties of citizens in addition to effective security cover to vital installations and foreign diplomats”, he added. He further directed for foolproof security at all public places in close liaison with Pakistan Rangers Sindh and law enforcing agencies at all levels.
