IGP orders tightened security for Youm-i-Ali events

KARACHI: IGP Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali on Wednesday directed officials to ensure implementation of the policy and course of actions devised under Ramazan contingency plan for security of majalis and mourning processions on the occasion of Youm-i-Ali, the martyrdom day anniversary of Hazrat Ali (RA), on 21st Ramadan.

He said all masajids, imambargahs, and gatherings at selected open places and the routes of processions should not only be provided security, but strong and effective measures should be taken for traffic control as well.

“Timely police action should be ensured against criminals and perpetrators through recce, spying and intelligence collection sharing so that no untoward incident takes place,” he said.

Jamali said all police stations should not only ensure implementation of National Action Plan, but should also ensure non-discriminatory actions under it.

“Anguishing wall chalking should be removed and sale/ distribution of material comprising ireful speeches and pamphlets should be stopped,” he said.

He said posting of trained staff should be ensured for direct monitoring of the city. Practical steps should be taken for monitoring 24 hours continuously so that timely counter action could be taken.

The IG said the staff posted for monitoring of the city would have the responsibility to immediately inform about suspicious or criminal activities to the police stations.

According to a police report, 4318 masajids, 459 imambargahs, 1354 madaris, open areas for offering Namaz-e-Taraweeh and shopping centers collectively in all the three zones of Karachi have been made part of the contingency plan, while police pickets and mobile van and motorcycle patrolling would also be ensured. Meanwhile, 11,000 policemen are being posted for security on the occasion of Youm-i-Ali.
