Illegal hydrants ruining roads, water system: commissioner

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that illegal water hydrants were responsible for ruining roads and water distribution system in the city and giving the government loss of revenue.

He said this while visiting different areas in the city. Additional Commissioner East Arif Kalhor and municipal and administration officers were also present with him.

The commissioner expressed disapproval over the bad condition of the road near Safoora Chowrangi because of illegal Safoora Hydrant. He summoned the manager of the hydrant on the spot and ordered him to stop the supply of water immediately otherwise the hydrant would be demolished.

Siddiqui directed that all the government/ private water tanker owners should be ordered to change their leaking valves because they were ruining the roads and cause of loss to the life and property of the people, as motorcycles slip over it.

“If any water tanker is found with leaking valve, action would be taken against its owner,” he said.

Siddiqui said that all the administration officers, on the directives of Sindh Minister for Local Bodies Sharjeel Inam Memon, should support the crackdown against illegal hydrants and perform their role to finish those in cooperation with the relevant organizations.

He said that nobody would be allowed to challenge the government writ.
