Karachi: Illegal parking of vehicles on footpaths and road mostly be car showroom dealers and their customers on busy New M A Jinnah Road has been continued despite several complaints by citizens and commuters.

Dozens of car showroom dealers park their cars for sale on footpaths and road in front of their shop, many of that too are built on parking space of different apartment buildings. Resultantly, hardly one-fourth space of the road is spared for traffic, creating crippling traffic jams especially during rush hours.

The governor house, chief minister house, chief secretary, commissioner Karachi, administrator Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and AIG Traffic are fully aware of the situation and both print and electronic media have run hundreds of stories on this serious civic issue, but still they hesitate to ban illegal parking on this very busy road of the city.

The citizens have suggested to declare both sides of the New M A Jinnah Road from Mazar-e-Quaid Chowrangi to Jail Road Flyover as ‘charged parking area’ to deter illegal parking on one hand and to generate some funds for the cash stripped KMC on the other. They request that iron girls be installed on footpaths of the both sides of this road to stop parking on vehicles on footpaths which is not only the violation of the rights of pedestrians but also a glaring failure of the administration which is witnessed daily by millions of people using this busy road daily.
