Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid has reiterated his call to the Afghan President to exercise his powers for release of detained Pakistani journalists Faizullah.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Thursday, he said Pakistan respects judicial process, law and the constitution of every country including Afghanistan. The Information Minister said that the Afghan laws allow its President to give pardon in such cases.

He, however, pointed out that under the law the President can exercise his powers once all judicial processes are exhausted. He hoped that once this is done in the shortest possible time, the Afghan President would consider our appeal.

He said Government of Pakistan would also consider approaching the Afghan President formally in this regard once the case is disposed of by the Afghan judiciary.

The Minister assured family of the detained journalist that the Government would take every possible measure to seek early release of Faizullah.
