Int’l poetry event to promote peace in city: commissioner

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Thursday that holding of international poetry event in Karachi was welcoming which would promote peace, poetry and literature in the city.

“The annual international poetry event has become symbol of culture and literature in the city and such events are necessary for establishment of peace. Literature-friendly and poetry-loving people wait for the event every year,” he said while addressing a meeting at his office with the delegation of organizers to review arrangements of civic facilities for the international poetry event.

Rizwan Siddiqui, Mehmood Ahmed Khan, Amir Masood Sheikh, Mazhar Khan, Dr Buland Iqbal and other people were also present on the occasion.

Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad would participate in the poetry event as a special guest, while prominent poets of country and out of the country would also participate in the event including Indian poets Waseem Brelvi, Munawwar Rana, Manzar Bhopali, Afzal Manglori, Tariq Qamar and Kaleem Qaiser.

The commissioner ensured the organizers for provision of all the required civic facilities and security for the event.
