ITI Cargo Train project of ECO CCI is essential to enhance ECO regional trade activities,FPCCIOctober 1, 2014
Islamabad: ECO CCI platform is playing important role in developing trade and economic activities in the region and the member countries are struggling to strengthen their business relations and economic cooperation amongst them.
This was stated by Zakaria Usman, President ECO CCI and FPCCI while expressing his determination to enhance bilateral trade activities with ECO member countries, he said that the business community and the government as well should take the benefit of this opportunity to enhance business relations and explore the ECO regional market for non-traditional potential items.
He said the Presidency and Secretariat of ECO CCI has been shifted in Pakistan and any businessmen or exporter/importer have any problem in ECO member countries can contact us with concrete proposals and suggestions which would be welcomed and considered in the best interest of our country. He further said that we believe on practical approach not on ceremonial activities.
Zakaria Usman emphasized on early completion of Istanbul – Tehran – Islamabad cargo train project of ECO CCI and said that freight train service between Istanbul, Tehran and Islamabad which is not yet started was decided in the Istanbul Forum that the freight train service will be started with a proper time schedule and also will be extended to Afghanistan through Trucks to Kabul from Islamabad and through Chaman to Qnadhar. He further said that now it is the need of hour and speedy work is required on this project so that the regional trade can be boosted.
He expressed his intention to have the headquarter of ECO CCI in Pakistan with the support of the government like other regional Chambers of Commerce i.e. SAARC CCI and Islamic CCI. He said that all efforts on national and international level as well will be made to achieve this target. He stressed on grant of the diplomatic status to the office bearers of ECO CCI as already granted in the case of Islamic CCI.
Zakaria Usman informed that the ECO Secretariat is working on creating harmonization in legal and accounting standards amongst the ECO member countries and possibility of provision of access to the landlock countries of Central Asia and Afghanistan.
He further informed that the secretariat also working of the various NTBs need to be removed for the development of economic cooperation and trade activities and also development and improvements in tourism industry in the ECO member countries.
