Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sindh chapter Amir Dr. Merajul Huda Siddiqui on Wednesday said that the government should take steps to transfer the benefit of reduced oil prices by reducing the rates of daily-use commodities and fares of public transport.

In a statement, Siddiqui said that even if the government reduced the rate of petrol to Rs 40 per liter to make it par with its international rate the government revenue would not be affected.

He said that presently the rate of petrol comprises more than 50percent of taxes. He said fares of public transport, and rates of medicines, milk, curd and other food items are increased unilaterally.

Siddiqui said that the government is hoodwinking the public with its negligible reduction in oil prices. He said the culture of corruption and plundering has snatched happiness from the common man and shaken the economic foundations of the country.

He demanded of the government to provide full relief of cut in oil prices to the poor masses. He asked for strict action against profiteers and hoarders to facilitate poor people.
