KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter on Wednesday launched a vigorous drive against the K-Electric (KE) by holding a peaceful protest demonstration and sit-in outside the KE head office in Karachi to register the anger and unrest of Karachiites against dismal performance of privately owned KE and its failure to control power breakdowns and load shedding.

A large number of people from different walks of life including the representatives of traders and civil society, as well as, residents of the adjoining areas participated in the protest.

Addressing the protestors, JI leaders held the nexus of KE management and corrupt politicians responsible for the electricity-related vows of Karachi. They said these corrupt politicians provide support to the KE’s the worst policies that are responsible for the miseries of more than 20 million residents of this mega city.

They said that the KE has made the city of lights a city of darkness. They said majority of Karachiites have been facing a perpetual mental and physical trauma due to the unending greed of the KE’s ownership to maximize their profits at the cost of hapless electricity consumers.

They alleged that KE is supported by the armed wings of some so-called political parties who terrorize the electricity consumers to pay inflated bills.

JI leaders said the self-proclaimed political owners of the city are hands in glove with the KE to fleece Karachiites and they are equally responsible for the deteriorating situation.

JI leaders raised questions on financial affairs of the KE and demand a third party audit of its accounts.

JI Karachi Chief Hafiz Hafiz Naeem announced to further escalate the campaign against the KE after the Eid-ul-Fitr to save the electricity consumer of Karachiites from the looting of the KE.
