LANDIKOTAL: Tribal Union of Journalists Khyber Agency held a protest demonstration by launching journalism protection movement in Landikotal on Thursday.

The journalists of Landikotal and Jamrud subdivisions gathered at Landikotal main bazaar and took out a rally, led by TUJ president Mehboob Shah Afridi, demanding protection of mediamen working in Landikotal and other parts of FATA.

The journalists were chanting slogans in favour of their demands and criticized the authorities for the harassment of journalists and raids on their houses and blindfolding and handcuffing them.

The journalists gathered in Landikotal bazaar near Political Administration Compound where the President of TUJ Khyber and other senior journalists addressed the gathering. Mehboob Shah Afridi, the president of TUJ Khyber, said during his speech that the security forces’ raids were illegal and unjustified on the journalist’s homes. “If the authorities have some reservations about the activities of journalists, they should call press clubs and settle down the issue peacefully.”

He said that raids on the houses, harassment and torturing the journalists of Khyber Agency were not acceptable to them. Another tribal journalist Abdul Azam Shinwari also addressed the journalists gathering and demanded of the authorities to stop unlawful raids on the residences of mediamen and stop torturing them for writing truth and facts.

Jamrud Press Club President Sajid Ali Koki Khel while speaking on the occasion strongly condemned the forces’ raids on the houses of Landikotal based tribal journalists, adding that journalists could not be stopped from writing facts and exposing problems faced by the tribesmen. He also vowed to continue the Journalism Protection Movement in the future as well to meet their genuine demands.
