Journalists stage sit-in before Sindh Assembly

Karachi: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) and All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation (APNEC) organized a sit-in protest at Sind assembly to press their demands.

Hundreds of journalists belonging to different districts attended the demo.

Addressing on the occasion, APNEC President Shafee Uddin reminded the government that the Newspaper Employees (Conditions of Service) Act 1973, under which Wage Award is given to newspaper employees after every five years, was passed by the highest legislative organ of this country. He asked the government to give security to journalists and media houses. He demanded compensation for the families martyred journalists.

PFUJ leader Ayaz Khan said some media house had sacked many journalists without any notice which is violation of labour rights. He demanded of Government to take serious action for these media houses.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon addressing the protesting journalists assured them that the PPP would pass a resolution in support to the demands in Sindh assembly tomorrow. Later, the protesting journalists ended their protest and went back to Karachi Press Club.
