Islamabad: Pakistan has said India never responded positively on proposals regarding resolution of Siachen issue. This was said by Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam in her weekly press briefing in Islamabad on Thursday. She said proposal of declaring Siachen a Peace Park and demilitarization of the territory came into our bilateral discussions in the past, but Indian policy towards resolution of this issue always remained inflexible.

The spokesperson said pronouncing bilateral negotiations between Pakistan and Indian on Kashmir as undermining UN Security Council’s resolutions, is legally and political incorrect.

She said actual legal position on Kashmir is that the dispute must be resolved as per the aspirations of Kashmiri people through plebiscite. She said Simla Agreement does not make UN resolutions ineffective.

Tasnim Aslam said Pakistan and India sooner or later will have to resume composite dialogues for the sake of sustainable peace in the region. She said consultation with Indian-held Kashmiri leadership is a routine matter.

She said process of declaring any organization as terrorist outfit is enshrined in UN charter. She said unilateral decision of United States declaring three Pakistanis as terrorists does not apply on Pakistan.

Regarding Afghanistan, the spokesperson said Pakistan welcomes political transition in Afghanistan and also welcomes Bilateral Security Agreement between Afghanistan and United States.

She said Pakistan supports every initiative aimed at bringing stability in our western neighbor because sustainable peace is in our own interest. She said being an independent country, Afghanistan can sign any agreement with any country.

She said elimination of terrorism is a common responsibility of all countries of the region.

Regarding Polio, Tasnim Aslam said Pakistan is committed with its responsibility regarding polio eradication from Pakistan and every Pakistani travelling abroad is being administered with vaccination.

She said the government is taking every possible step in this regard. She, however, said it is regretful that new polio cases have been recorded.

She welcomed release of Pakistani journalists Faizullah Khan from Afghanistan, and thanked every person involved in efforts for his release. She said Pakistan through its mission in Afghanistan extended all possible support to Faizullah including provision of legal counsel.
