Kashmir: (Kashmiris opposed testing of depleted Uranium’s artillery shells at Bajpathri)December 26, 2015
SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, civil society members have expressed concern over the testing of artillery shells made of depleted uranium at firing ranges at Bajpathri.
According to a report, they expressed the concern at a meeting of experts under the banner of Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies in Srinagar. The civil society members observed that turning Bajpathri into firing range would severely affect water supply to Srinagar and other areas.
Two major water reservoirs and 24 water supply schemes are in and around Bajpathri and all of them will become poisonous due to dispersal of chemicals like lead, sulphur, depleted uranium and other harmful substances used in shells, they feared.
