KE rules out overbilling allegations

KARACHI: K-Electric said in a statement on Tuesday that disregarding allegations of over-billing and further stated that bills are sent after careful reading of electric meters and documented evidence and on the other hand the increase in power tariff was done by NEPRA on the instructions from the federal government.

Rebutting a published news, KE spokesperson said that customers are sent bills according to meter readings of each locality as KE technical staff has ensured that its valued customer get electricity bills according to the units consumed. In the case of any discrepancy in the number of units consumed, the cost of the bill is promptly rectified by the technical teams and the additional cost paid is credited immediately to customer account.

Furthermore in reference to the hike in power tariffs, KE spokesperson added that the decision to either increase or decrease tariffs does not fall under KE’s command and is taken by NEPRA in accordance with the instructions from the federal government. The major reason for the hike is due to a fixed classifications of tariff rates which have been enforced by the government, while KE management plays no role in this decision.

KE ensured its customers that all billing is conducted in accordance with meter readings and documented evidence where no human interference is possible. When it comes to electricity theft, it is always tried to serve the notices and the detail reports are also shared with the consumers at their concerned KE Office.

It is the fact that there are number of PMTs across the city standing with huge out-standings and overburdened with KUNDAs (illegal connections). Rejecting the impression of straightway disconnecting the defaulter PMTs or an individual’s connection, it is also clarified here that KE’s regional teams always approach the concerned area people connected with these defaulter PMTs to pay their bills through notices, facilitated through special recovery camps and even special rebates are also offered in different cases so that paying the bill behaviour could be encouraged.

In Addition, KE is running successfully its ABC (Arial Bundle Cabling) Project in different suburban and remote location of the city. During the Financial Year 14 and 15, K Electric installed around 100 Kilometers Arial Bundled Cables and converted 35 vicinities of Rehmat Chowk, Moosa Colony Liaquatabad, Bhittai Colony, Johar, Liaquat Market, Nazimabad, Surjani Al Ghouri, N. Nazimabad, Liaquatabad Super market and others
