KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday awarded life imprisonment to an accused, Imran Ahsan alias Sani and acquitted co-accused Salman Qureshi in two kidnapping for ransom cases.
ATC judge found Sani guilty in two cases of kidnapping for ransom. However, the court acquitted co-accused Salman Qureshi after founding him not guilty, while another co-accused Liba was pardoned after she became approver.
The ATC judge pronounced its verdict after recording witnesses’ statements, evidences and hearing arguments from both sides.
According to the prosecution, in the first case registered against accused at Shahrah-e-Faisal police station, they had kidnapped state agent Khurram in October 2008 and later released him after taking ransom of Rs 1,000,000 from his family.
In the second case against accused lodged in New Town police station, the accused had kidnapped Talha Ahmed on 2nd November 2008 and demanded ransom for his safe release. However, the police came in action this time and arrested the accused and recovered abductee from their possession.
