KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday issued notice to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s administrator, financial advisor and others over nonpayment of salaries and pensions to the KMC and DMCs employees.

A division bench headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi was hearing an application filed by the KMC employees union, Sajjan Union, and Nadeem Sheikh against the authorities for flouting court order regarding payment of salaries and pensions to employees of KMC and DMCs.

Nadeem Sheikh submitted that thousands of the employees of KMC and DMCs, including firebrigade department staff, were not paid salaries owing to delay in release of OZT and special grant. Despite repeated directives of the court the provincial government had failed to release the funds timely, he added.

He told the judges that the unpaid employees were facing hardships and unable to feed their families in the holy month. Therefore, he prayed the court to direct the authorities to make payment of salaries to the KMC and DMCs employees, including pensioners, within the stipulated time.
