KMC set to launch low-cost public housing projectsJuly 26, 2015
KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will promote the public housing sector as a bid to encourage the socio-economic development at local level. The first phase of this scheme envisaged the construction of three and four room well-standard apartments on a 2700 sq yards piece of land in the KDA Scheme-1 to be offered to the citizens under instalment plan.
This was decided in a meeting of the executive board meeting of public housing under the chairmanship of Administrator KMC Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and attended by Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui and other members of the board.
Siddiqui said defunct KDA has worked a lot in this sector and still needed to continue it through providing better low-cost housing facility to citizens and supporting social economic development while ensuring handsome recovery for KMC.
He also directed the public housing department to put up suggestions for new public housing schemes in coordination with Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), Master Plan and other departments which should be included in the agenda for the next board meeting.
Administrator Karachi also instructed to finalize the scheme of public housing project after completing all formal requirements to be initiated on the KMC plot in KDA Scheme-1 so that this could launch the public housing scheme.
He said the culture of hiring consultants for the projects should also be as diminished as possible and the engineers must show their capabilities instead.
It was also decided in the meeting to open separate account for each scheme so that they could finish on time and till their allocation was used only for the project till its completion.
Director public housing scheme was directed in the meeting to take the measures for recovery of rent from Civic Centre in Korangi.
The meeting also discussed the technical, financial, legal and other aspects of the public housing schemes to be made on the KDA Scheme-1 plot No ST-2, measuring 2414 sq yards, Scheme No16 measuring 5722 sq yards and plot No ST-8 block-3 and Scheme No 6 measuring 8840 sq yards.
This may be noted that in order to enhance the recovery resources of KDA Wing of KMC and to promote the public housing scheme, the Administrator Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui had setup the executive board for launching new public housing schemes in the city. The board members include financial advisor KMC, DG technical services KMC, senior legal advisor KMC, director land (KDA-1, KMC), director marketing BHS KDA Wing, representatives of commissioner Karachi, SBCA and Master Plan Department.
