KMC starts preparatory work for cricket tourney

KARACHI: Following the directive of Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui, KMC staff started the preparatory work for T20 Cup Cricket Tournament 2014 at the National Stadium Karachi.

The cutting of bushes and ground levelling work on the external portion of the stadium was being carried out by KMC with the help of dumpers, tractors and other machinery which would continue in the night hours also.

A contingent of more than 100 officers and related staff along with city wardens, fire tenders, rescue 1122 ambulances and medical team will be deputed at the stadium during the tournament from 17th to 28th September 2014.

The Senior Director Medical & Health Services, KMC Dr Salma Kausar Ali, will head the supervisory team which would ensure the provision of medical cover to the general public during the T20 Cup.

Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui has said that the hosting of T20 cup cricket tournament was a good opportunity for highlighting the positive image of the city of Karachi and the event should send a good message to whole world about Karachi.

He urged the people to make it a successful by participating in it in large number. He said the tournament was initially scheduled for Multan, however due to the present circumstances it was shifted to Karachi and now it was a challenge for the Karachi administration and the citizens of Karachi to hold the event in a befitting manner.

Farooqui said sports activities sends positive signals and therefore such events should be held on regular basis which gives good opportunity to local as well as national talent to show their capabilities. Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would play its role in the success of this event.
