KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui said on Wednesday that necessary measures were being taken to improve the facilities available at the women sports complex in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

On a visit to the women sports complex, he also appealed to the city’s well-off people to join hands with KMC to run these sports centers and improve them further as this would enable citizens to keep using these facilities.

Director General Technical Services Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Senior Director Municipal Services Masood Alam, Senior Director CSR Mohammad Rehan Khan and other officers were also present on the occasion.

Senior Director CSR Mohammad Rehan Khan while giving a briefing on the sports complex said the complex had over 350 women members on permanent basis and on average 150 women were daily using these facilities in the complex which included swimming pool, gymnasium and fitness and exercise centre.

Annual sports competitions and summer camp were also held on a regular basis.

The administrator said that it was a unique women sports complex in the area which was used by hundreds of women daily. No other sports complex offers such facilities to women in the city. He said establishment of such a sports centre was a good step, however it still needed improvement.

“Today we have decided to upgrade the facilities available in this complex and more facilities will be added here,” he said.

He also directed to carry out the repair and maintenance work without delay and said a committee comprising renowned citizens of the city was being formed which would give its recommendations for improving these centers.
