KARACHI: Karachi University Teacher Society’s (KUTS) General Secretary Prof Dr Mohammad Harris Shuaib on Wednesday demanded the Sindh government to release compensation amount Rs 30 million for the family of deceased Dr Waheed-ur-Rehman.

Dr Waheed was an assistant professor at the varsity’s Mass Communication Department and assassinated by four unidentified gunmen near his residence at Federal B area’s Block-16.

Dr Haris said Sindh government had announced the compensation of Rs 30 million when Dr Rehman was shot dead on April 29, 2015. He said a few months back the government had released only Rs0.15 million which was rejected by the KUTS with the consent of Dr Rehman’s family as it was unjustified.

He said he was assured by the authorities concerned that the compensation amount would be issued to Dr Rehman’s family but it could not be released as yet.

He said there should be a respect for the bereaved family as they already had lost their family head. He demanded of government to release full compensation which was announced earlier by it.
