KARACHI: On the directive of managing director Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB), demolition team of KWSB carried out grand operation against encroachments on 5 kilometre long area in Safoora Goth, where KWSB instalments, rising main lines and reservoirs are established, and demolished over 300 illegal camps, mud houses, dairy farms and plant nurseries on Tuesday.

Chief Engineer Bulk Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, Chief Security Officer Major (retd) Muhammad Nawaz Gondal, Superintending Engineer Syed Muhammad Ejaz, Executive Engineer Tabish Raza, Assistant Executive Engineer Tanveer Ahmed, Bhittai Rangers, police and other staff were also present on the occasion.

In a six hour long operation demolition team with the help of three loaders, four dumpers and manpower cleared 30 percent area of encroachments, while four more days would be required for completing the operation. No resistance was faced during the operation,” said KWSB spokesperson.

This should be clear that there are three kinds of underground water pipelines in that area, which are: four lines of 84inches diameter pipeline, a rising main line of 48inch diameter pipeline and a 24inch diameter pipeline.

He said water was being provided in 60 percent areas of the city 24 hours through these lines. There was a fear of damage from illegal encroachments to these pipelines through sabotage. Therefore, the operation was inevitable.
