KWSB forms body to resolve water issues

KARACHI: Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has formed a committee to resolve water shortage and other issues besides providing safe drinking water to the citizens.

The committee was formed at a meeting held under the supervision of KWSB Managing Director Misbahuddin Fareed. DMD Technical Services Iftikhar Ahmed Khan, WTM Chief Engineer Zafar Paleejo, Chief Engineer Bulk Sikandar Ali Zardari, Chief Security Officer Major (retd) Mohammad Nawaz Gondal, Superintendent Engineer Asif Qadri, In-charge Hydrants Nisar Magsi were present in the meeting.

Fareed said that for preventing the water theft, discouragement of this act is direly needed and the department is bringing clear reduction in water shortage. He said: “Free Awami Tanker Service” started on instruction of Chief Minister Sindh under the supervision of Commissioner Karachi is providing 400 tankers on daily basis.”

He said all relevant departments will be issued water consuming bills for early recovery of revenue. He said six hydrants Akbar Hydrant Sharafi Goth, Murghi Khana Hydrant Malir, Sitara Hydrant Korangi Creek, Krish Plant Hydrant Manghopir, Sherpao Hydrant Lalabad Landhi and New Sabzi Mandi Hydrant Northern bypass have been closed.

He warned the tanker owners that if anyone is found stealing water from water board pipelines, his license will be cancelled. He instructed the officers to ensure the action against the persons stealing water and take action against illegal water hydrants.
