LANDIKOTAL: One driver killed and three others injured in JamrudAugust 20, 2014
Peshawar: Unknown armed militants again today on Thursday opened indiscriminate firing on two NATO supply oil tankers at Soor Kamar area of Tehsil Jamrud of Khyber Agency . The Afghanistan bound NATO supply oil tankers were reportedly hit with rocket launchers and automatic rifles, which set them ablaze and destroyed them completely. Sources also said that one of the drivers got burnt inside the seat while the others also caught fire and got seriously injured. The injured persons including a local passerby were rushed to the nearby Jamrud civil hospital for treatment.
It was also learnt that Khasadar Force personnel exchanged fire with the militants but the militants were more in number, sources said. The Pak Afghan high way remained blocked for hours due to this incident and fire flames rising from the oil tankers.
The killed one driver belonged to Lakki Marwat whereas the injured ones belonged to Landikotal, Jamrud and Swat respectively, sources said. The security forces also rushed to the scene soon after the incident but the militants had reportedly fled the area after their successful assault, sources added.
This is to be noted that in the last three days it was the third attack from militants’ side in Jamrud area of Khyber Agency in the same area. The law and order situation seems to be out of the control of the political administration in Jamrud, which has scared the transporters and the locals, locals observed, saying that due to NATO supply through this route , the security situation could be more jeopardized which can further paralyze the daily life of the people.
Probably a month ago the security forces had imposed curfew in some of the areas in Jamrud to improve the law and order situation , but the local people and their elders held many jirgas to demand the security forces officials to lift the curfew and allow the locals to move freely to and fro, which probably again led the situation go worse, locals commented.
Jamrud sub division of Khyber Agency is the most volatile from security point of view as the law and order situation is comparatively better in the other two tehsils. The improvement of the law and order situation is a great challenge for the government to ensure protection of the lives and properties of the people and transporters in Khyber Agency especially in Jamrud, locals demanded.
The NATO supply tankers and containers have been again the target of the militants in the last one month after a long interval as most of the NATO supply was kept on through Chaman border in Baluchistan.
