KARACHI: Lawyers of the city boycotted the legal proceedings on Monday at Sindh High Court (SHC) and its subordinate courts in protest against crackdown on protestors and torture on media persons by police in Islamabad.

At the request of Sindh Bar Council (SBC) and SHC Bar Association, SHC Chief Justice suspended the work at SHC. However, the Judges were asked to take up urgent matters in their chambers.

A day earlier, SBC announced that legal proceedings on Monday would remain suspended across the province to protest brutal action against protestors and torture on media persons by police.

Lawyers stayed away from the courtrooms and did not pursue the cases.

Over two thousand cases listed for hearing on Monday could not be taken up due to boycott, which added to the backlog of cases.
