Karachi: Sindh Senior Education Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that the Education and Literacy Department, Government of Sindh has won a provisional five-year contract with the UK to admission of students for 30,000 prestigious UK University Bachelor Degrees without students having travel to the UK.

The Higher Education courses (including IT, Accountancy and Business Administration), to commence in July 2015 will be identical in all respects to their UK equivalents but will be on a distance learning basis to enable Sindhi students to study from home at their own pace. Final examination will take place in Pakistan rather than the UK.

The cost for the entire 3 year course has been negotiated down to approximately 850,000 rupees.

Khuhro said “This is a great greater opportunity for the students of Sindh to achieve their full potential. We have won this contract in priority in Asia. Only 3,000 Pakistanis are able to attend UK Universities every year and this number is reducing every year because of visa and other issues. For those who can obtain a visa, they have to incur the cost up to 16 million PKR per person, with tuition fees alone begin a minimum of 4.5 million PKR. To obtain the exact same Bachelors Degree for only 850,000 PKR whilst students can continue to discharge their family duties at home is step forward for Sindh Province.

He said   there will be an endowment fund from the UK so that up to 1 in 5 of the courses will be made available free of charge or at a reduced rated to cater for all levels.

Khuhro said the Education Department is inviting potential students aged 17 to 30 to register their interest (without them making any commitment) via the website below before14th October. There will only be 6,000 places available per year. For registration the students can visit www.sindh.org.uk .
