Meeting reviews progress on BRT ProjectJuly 22, 2014
KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui said on Wednesday that public transport issues of Karachiites would be solved to a great extent with the completion of Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) — Blue Line Project.
“This would be the best transport facility for passengers travelling from Sohrab Goth to Tower; therefore, all utility service providers should immediately plan for shifting away from the BRT — Blue Line route so that the project, which was going to start in next few months, could be completed on time,” he told the joint meeting of utility service providers and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officers held in the committee room, Civic Centre, to review progress.
The representative of K-Electric, Sui Southern Gas Company, Karachi Water & Sewerage Board and PTCL, Director General Technical Services KMC Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Senior Director Transport Muhammad Ather and other officers were also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, plan for finalization of survey of utility services coming in the way of Blue Line project and their shifting was reviewed in detail. It was informed that the survey of utility services was completed in accordance with the documents provided by the project consultant and now there would be no barrier once the work on this project got started.
Ather, while briefing on the project, said KMC was already coordinating with the utility services providers and a joint strategy had been worked out in this connection.
Farooqui said all civic bodies should own their city as city problems could be solved only through joint efforts of everyone. He appreciated the completion of homework by services providers for shifting of their services and said this being a BOT based project therefore it would be better that all utility services providers under the spirit of serving the city carry out shifting of their services with their own resources.
He also directed the KMC officers to maintain regular coordination with the concerned bodies and attempt for immediate solution of problems or difficulties whenever and wherever arise.
