Minor accused remanded to jail custody in explosives case

KARACHI: An Anti-terrorism Court-III (ATC-III) on Saturday remanded two suspects, Abdul Basit alias Kala and Mairaj, to jail custody till 21 November 2014 in an explosive materials case.

Police produced the accused before the ATC-III judge under tight security. Investigation officer requested the court to allow the physical remand of the both accused as the police wanted to investigate them to map out their connections. The court rejected the police request and remanded both the accused to jail custody for seven days as both the accused were underage.

The court directed jail authorities to determine age of both accused through the police surgeon and produce them on 22nd November.

According to the police, the accused belonged to Sheeraz Comrade group of Lyari gang war and were arrested on 14 November within the jurisdiction of Garden police station. The police claimed to have seized hand grenades from their possession.

The case against both accused was registered under Section 4/5 of the Explosive Substance Act at Garden police station.
