Karachi: Ismat Siddiqui, the mother of the noted woman scientist of Pakistan Dr Aafia Siddiqui, has sought the assistance of Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif, the spouse of Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, in early release of her daughter presently languishing in a US jail.

In an open letter sent to Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday, Ismat Siddiqui said that mothers are always proud of the achievement of their daughters. She said she often sees the smiling pictures of Mariam Nawaz along with her mother Kulsoom Nawaz, beaming with pride at her daughter’s achievements. She said Mariam Nawaz has been playing a great role in the field of youth development and it should be a great source of happiness and satisfaction for her mother. She said that she is also the mother of a great daughter, Aafia Siddiqui, who just 15 years back was considered as the pride for Pakistan.

She said during her education in the United States of America, Dr Aafia got a lot of awards. She refused the offer of US citizenship and remained proud of being a Pakistani. She wanted to return Pakistan and make a revolution in the field of education. She wanted to groom the young generation of Pakistan in the field of education so as to pave foundation of a greater nation. However, when Aafia decided to spread education and literacy in Pakistan the agents of dark forces kidnapped her along with her children from Karachi and trafficked them abroad, where she was meted out the worst possible inhuman treatment. This pious Pakistani daughter was not only the holder of a doctorate degree from a prestigious American university but also a Hafiz-e-Quran. She successfully represented the great values of both East and West, a virtue that is not easy to attain.

Ismat Siddiqui said a dictator in Pakistan sold this precious daughter of the nation to his evil masters. She regretted that not only military dictators but the elected leaders of Pakistan have also sold the national honour to aliens to get a few dollars on many occasions. She said her daughter has been braving the inhuman cruelties for long that no any mother could think about her daughter. “However, a firm belief in Allah and his Last Messenger Mohammad (Peace be upon him) and the study of Holy Quran have kept my spirit alive in these heart wrenching circumstances.”

She said not only the peace-loving people of the world but the leading legal expert also have declared that Aafia is innocent and punished wrongly for a crime she never committed. Even the government of Pakistan has accepted it.

Ismat Siddiqui said that as a woman is behind every successful man, she feels that Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif should remind her husband Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif of his promise about the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. She said the worst atrocities meted out to Aafia are a blemish on the face of every Pakistani. She said it is also an issue of women rights and the rights of mothers and all women including Kulsoom Nawaz have to play their due role to seek justice for innocent Pakistani mother, Aafia.

Ismat Siddiqui said her family has a long history of great sacrifices for Pakistan. Her mother, who was the daughter of a Nawaz, presented all her wealth to Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah during the Pakistan Movement and this spirit had also greatly moved the Quaid e Azam. She said her husband was a leading figure of youth of Aligarh who played a big role in Pakistan Movement. She said his grandfather who was a big landlord and noted lawyer of India returned all titles and privileges bestowed on him by the British rulers. She said we migrated to Pakistani so that we could live here with independence and honour.

Ismat Siddiqui appealed to Kulsoom Nawaz Sharif that being a mother and the first lady of Pakistan she should play her important role for release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, which is also her moral and national duty. She said Kulsoom Nawaz had played a big role for the release of her husband when he was in jail and now when they have got the third opportunity to rule this country she should, this time, plays a big role in seeking an early release and repatriation of Dr.Aafia Siddiqui.
