KARACHI: Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA), Nishat Zia Qadri, on Thursday expressed grave concern over rising number of polio cases in the city and urged every citizen to play their due role for eradicating them.

“A polio-free country is an assurance of healthy and developed society,” he said while speaking on the occasion of his visit to Shah Faisal colony along with officers of health department, Baldia Korangi and Karachi Water & Sewerage Board. He appealed to parents to ensure that newly born children were polio-immunized and vaccinated for another five years.

While discussing problems pertaining to supplies of vaccines and polio team inaccessibility, he suggested parents to consult a nearby health center and directed officers to initiate awareness campaigns to alert the dwellers regarding preventive measures of dengue, congo and other major diseases.

He inspected different lanes of the vicinity and urged officers to ensure a healthy environment and sprinkle anti-disease sprays in the area.
