MQM warns to spill beans as minister names Farooq Dada in Sindh AssemblyOctober 26, 2014
Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) warned that they would also name the terrorists belonging to the ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) if the names of their workers killed in ‘extra-judicial’ encounters are discussed in Sindh Assembly.
MQM lawmakers strongly protested when Sindh Minister for Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon, responding to a Call Attention Notice (CAN) of MQM MPA Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan Kamali, observed that in past recruitments were made in local government departments without following rules and procedures. He said to quote an example ‘a notorious terrorist’ Farooq Dada was the driver of managing director of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB).
On this MQM members strongly protested and said that the names of their party workers who were killed extra-judicially should not be named in assembly. Khuwaja Izharul Hassan and other MQM members said they can also name the terrorists who belonged to the PPPP.
On this the members of PPPP also stood and protested. From both sides slogans were raised. However, after several orders from the speaker the protest was ended from both sides and the remaining proceedings of the house resumed.
Sindh minister for parliamentary affairs Dr Sikandar Mandhro introduced 13 bills. These bills include Govt Bill No 12 of 2014 – The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (Sindh Administration) Bill 2013; Govt Bill No 15/ 2014 The Sindh Epidemic Diseases Bill, 2014; Govt Bill No 16/ 2014 The Sindh Eye Surgery (Restriction) Bill 2014; Govt Bill No 17 of 2014- The Sindh Tuberculosis Notification Bill 2014; Govt Bill 20/ 2104 The Sindh Allopathic System (Prevention of misuse) Bill 2014; Govt Bill 21/ 2014 The Sindh Arms (Amendment) Bill 2014; Govt Bill 22/ 2014 The Sindh Mass Transit Authority Bill, 2014; Govt Bill 24/ 2014 The Sindh Physiotherapy Council Bill, 2014; Govt Bill No 27/2014 The Sindh Senior Citizens Welfare Bill, 2014; Govt Bill No 28/ 2014 The Sindh Pharmacy Council Bill, 2014; Govt Bill No 30/2014 The Sindh Medical and Dental Council Bill, 2014; Govt Bill No. 31/ 2014 The Sindh Nursing Council Bill, 2014, and Govt Bill No 33/ 2014 The Sindh Condominium Bill, 2014.
The House unanimously passed a resolution of PPPP lawmaker Ghazala Sayal and others that this Assembly resolves that Sindh Government takes precautionary measures to mitigate the threat of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), establish isolation wards to quarantine Ebola patients, establish Ebola screening desks at major airports, railway stations and other places and organize awareness sessions
The house met more than one hour and 19 minutes late than its scheduled time of 10:00am and only 18 members were present when the proceedings started. However, no one pointed out the quorum and the speaker also ignored it.
The leader of the opposition Mohammad Shaharyar Khan Mahar tabled Adjournment Motion to discuss the worsening law and order situation in the province, especially district Khairpur and Karachi. The government did not oppose the adjournment motion and it was decided that two hours would be allocated to discuss the motion on the next sitting after the private members’ day.
Syed Khalid Ahmed (MQM) tabled a privilege motion regarding non-cooperation of Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhter Farooqui, which was sent to the privilege committee.
Heer Soho of MQM put a short notice question, which was responded by the minister concerned, Dr Sikandar Mandhro.
Five call attention notices (CANs) were on the agenda and three of them tabled in the house and the government assured to solve the issues raised in the CANs.
Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah made a speech on drought situation in Thar and killing of children due to malnutrition. He said the government has already provided wheat the people of Thar besides taking other necessary steps.
Minister for food Jam Mehtab Dahar and minister for livestock Jam Khan Shoro also gave statements on the situation of Thar.
MQM MPA Khuwaja Izharul Hassan wanted to a move a resolution on the situation of Thar and the deaths of children due to malnutrition, but the chair did not allowed him, saying that the matter had already been discussed in the house and the CM and ministers have given statements.
Lastly, the chair adjourned the house till Tuesday, October 28, 10:00am.
