Mudassir stuns Yasir Khan in tennis tourney

Karachi: Upcoming youngster Mudassir Murtaza pulled a brilliant upset beating Pakistan No.4 Yasir Khan in straight sets in men’s singles event of 3rd Hassan Tariq Rahim Masters Cup Tennis Tournament on Monday at the hard courts of Lahore Gymkhana Club in Lahore.

19-year-old Mudassir took only 58 minutes to beat Yasir Khan by 6-2, 6-3 score. Right-handed Mudassir doesn’t have two fingers in his playing hand.

Meanwhile, Pakistan No.1 Aqeel Khan thrashed Faizaan Khurram by 6-0, 6-3 score. Pakistan No.2 Shahzad Khan defeated Ahmed Baber by 6-4, 6-1 score.

In the women’s singles matches, Pakistan No.1 Sara Mansoor beat Sabah by 6-2, 6-0 score while Rida Khalid defeated Noor Malik by 6-2, 6-3 score. Pakistan No.2 Sarah Mehboob Khan thrashed Khunsha Baber by 6-0, 6-0 score.

In Boy’s Under 18 singles matches, Zaid Mujahid came from behind to overcome Saqib Umer in a three-set recording a 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 victory. Aman Atiq defeated Hasnain Manzoor by 6-1, 6-1 score while 15-year-old Talha Bin Asif, after losing the first set, came from behind to beat Ilham Khan by 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 score.

In men’s doubles, pair of Arham Atiq and Ahed Baber shocked Usman Rafique and Heera Ashiq recording a 6-2, 6-3 victory.

Siblings Mudassir Murtaza and Muzamil Murtaza defeated pair of Shehryar Salamat and Ali Asad by 6-4, 6-2 score.
