MURDER OF KU DEAN: JUP to hold provincial convention

KARACHI: In the aftermath of cold-blooded murder of Karachi University Professor Shakeel Auj, Secretary General Jamiat-ul-Ulmah (JUP) and Acting President Jamat-ahl-Sunnat, Mohammad Ovais Noorani, announced holding a provincial level convention of clerics on September 21.

While addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Friday, Noorani said that the country was facing sectarian violence and lawlessness which concerned the central leadership of JUP to play its due role.

He expressed grave concerns over distribution of extremist literature in the country which allegedly foiling sectarian terrorism. “The country has become epicenter for proxies to wage war against one another and the relevant extremist literature is being spread to fuel extremism and hatred,” he added.

Quoting 1989 sectarian violence, he said that the nation has always rejected sectarianism and extremists would not be successful in their agendas.

Moreover, he condemned the murder of university dean, prof Shakeel Auj and urged arrest of culprits involved in killing and said the slain professor had no affiliation with any party which was wrongly portrayed by a private TV channel.
