NA: (Dar calls for collective efforts to end load shedding)June 22, 2015
ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday stressed the need for resolving the issue of load-shedding together as it is a national issue.
Replying to points raised by the Leader of the Opposition and other opposition members in the National Assembly, Dar suggested to let the budget process be completed.
“We will continue this session and talk on the issue of power crisis to find a solution, he said, adding that the ministers are ready to explain the entire position of load shedding”.
Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Mohammad Asif speaking on the issue said the government would welcome if the Parliament evolves a consensus to find out a solution to the power crisis.
Earlier, on a point of order, Leader of the Opposition Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah regretted that the government while taking the benefit of opposition’s walkout on Monday, passed the Demands for Grants and Appropriations for the next financial year in haste.
He said the opposition was ready to come to the House after staging a token walkout but he alleged that the government did not take it seriously. He said the opposition has prepared 1550 cut motions but could not move because they were protesting on a national issue of power crisis.
He said a number of lives have been lost due to heatwave in the country particularly in Karachi. He said in the presence of heatwave, long duration of load-shedding has increased the difficulties of the people.
He said we had ended the concept of load-shedding during Sehr and Iftar. He said the government has not set a good tradition. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said they will give a requisition for the summoning of National Assembly to discuss the increasing load-shedding in hot weather.
Rashid Godil said they will observe day of mourning on Friday. Sahibzada Tariqullah, Shaikh Rashid Ahmad, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Ghulam Ahmad Bilour were also spoke on the issue.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid said the government wants that the Opposition come back to the House and play their due role in the proceedings.
Speaking in the National Assembly after the meeting of the Leader of the Opposition and Parliamentary Leaders of the opposition parties in the Speaker’s Chamber, he said the treasury benches are waiting for them with open heart.
He said the Opposition members want to talk on power crisis and for this purpose they want to requisition the fresh session.
He said the Finance Minister offered them to let continue this session after the budget passage for discussion and finding a solution of load-shedding.
He said they also kept waiting on Monday of the opposition in the House during approval of Demands for Grants for the next financial year. He said token walkout means that the opposition will come back in the House after sometime but unfortunately perhaps due to some misunderstanding they did not return.
He said the government did not take any decision on which the opposition converts its token walkout to permanent walkout. The opposition members did not turn up in the House despite Ministers contacted them to bring back the opposition to the House.
