NAB hands over cheque of Rs. 2.33 Million to Deputy Post Master General

Peshawar: On the directions of Chairman NAB, Mr. Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, a Cheque distribution ceremony was held today at NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wherein Director General NAB Irfan Naeem Mangi handed over a cheque of Rs. 2.33 Million to the Deputy Post Master General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sami Ullah Khan.

The amount was recovered by NAB from Riaz Mohammad Rashid, the then Money Order Paid Clerk D.I. Khan GPO. The accused was arrested by NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 04-09-2012 on the charges of embezzlement in payments of money orders. He used to send the money order in sub offices to the actual payee and later on draw the same at GPO D.I. Khan.

The accused had submitted an application for entering into plea bargain (PB) which was accepted by the competent authority in NAB. Later on the application was submitted to Accountability Court Peshawar for its approval. After approval of the Accountability Court, NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recovered the above mentioned amount from the accused and paid it back to the Department of Postal Services.

It merits mentioning that once an accused enters into plea bargain (PB) he is deemed convicted under the provisions of NAO, 1999. The accused will lose his job as well as all pension benefits besides being ineligible to hold any public office and grant of any loan facility from any bank for 10 years.
