KARACHI: A report of National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on Thursday revealed that out of the total 174645 votes polled in national assembly constituency (NA-215) won by Pakistan Peoples’ Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) candidate, thumb impressions on 47291 ballots could be verified.

The Nadra report came on election petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s leader Syed Ghous Ali Shah, who lost both provincial and national assembly seats in his home town Khairpur, (PS-29 and NA-215) to Syed Qaim Ali Shah and Nawab Ali Wassan, respectively and challenged the election results to both constituencies before election tribunal.

The petitioner, PML-N’s defeated candidate alleged massive rigging in the polling in the both constituencies and sought verification of the thumb impressions on the ballots.

Election Tribunal at Karachi headed by former judge Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani had directed Nadra to verify the thumbprints of the voters on ballots papers polled in NA-215 and submit report.

Nadra report said that a total of 174645 counterfoils were sent to the Nadra for the verification out of which 47291 ballots were successfully authenticated as the finger prints affixed on the counterfoils at the time of issuance of ballot paper correctly matched with the finger print data of registered voters.

The report revealed that the thumb impression on 27373 ballots could not be compared or matched through the Nadra system because the fingers prints were of very poor quality. However, it also said, 99752 ballots cannot be verified due to different reasons.
