National Action Plan against terrorism going successfully: Shuja Khanzada

SIALKOT: Punjab Interior Minister Col (Rtd) Shuja Khanzada has said that the National Action Plan against terrorism was going successfully towards its right direction. He said that the counter terrorism steps taken by the government were resulting into the betterment in the situation against terrorism, especially in Punjab.

He stated this while talking to the newsmen at DCO office here Thursday.

Provincial Interior Minister said that the government has ensured security in the province by taking several effective counter-terrorism measures due to which betterment was coming day by day in Punjab.

Shuja Khanzada said that the Operation Zarb-e-Azb has broken the back of the terrorists in the country, as the ongoing anti-terrorism operation was meeting with great success.  He said that there was no doubt to say that the armed forces of Pakistan have the full capabilities to weed out terrorism from the country.  Armed forces of Pakistan have successfully eliminated and uprooted all the hide outs and networks of the terrorists from the country, besides, breaking the backbone of the terrorists, he added.

He said that the whole of the nation stands united against terrorism and was ready to sacrifice even their lives while battling against terrorism and militancy and defending the every inch of the Motherland shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces of Pakistan.

Provincial Interior Minister disclosed that the Punjab government has got updated the lists of the fourth-schedulers.

He said that there was 15 to 20 percent visible major decline in henious natured crime across Punjab after the resuming of the hangings of the death sentence convicts.

Earlier, while presiding over an important meeting of the district heads of the nation-building departments held at Sialkot DCO office here today, Punjab Interior Minister Col (Rtd) Shuja Khanzada reviewed in details the flood contingency plan chalked out by the district administration of Sialkot to save Sialkot from the recurring flood threats and disasters.

Sialkot DCO Dr. Asif Tufail gave a detailed briefing to the provincial interior minister about the flood preventive and flood-fighting measures being taken by the district administration of Sialkot to save Sialkot from flood disasters during the coming monsoon and flood seasons here. DCO added that the de-silting, widening and  channelization of the seasonal Naullahs Bhed, Aik and Palkhu was being conducted in Sialkot district to save the Sialkot city from flash floods, as experienced during 2014.

Col (Rtd) Shuja Khanzada said that the previous mistakes would not be repeated , as now the government was fully aware of pre-flood situation , saying that the Punjab government has focused on saving Sialkot from flood during this season first, because flood starts from Sialkot in Rivers Chenab, Tavi, Jammu and seasonal Naullahs Aik, Dek, Palkhu and Bhed as well.

He said that the government was utilizing all the available resources to combat flood this year.

He directed the district administration of Sialkot to ensure the early repairing and strengthening of all the breaches points in the rivers and Naullahs, besides, ensuring the early pavement of the dykes, embankments and banks of the rivers and Naullahs to ensure the smooth passage of the flood waters there.

“Everyone should get prepared before the flood to combat the recurring flood this time”, he added.

Later, Punjab Interior Minister Shuja Khanzada visited the various points of seasonal Naullahs Bhed, Aik and Dek in Sialkot and River Chenab near Head Marala-Sialkot to review the persisting situation there.

Chairman Chief Minister Inspection Team (CMIT) Irfan Ali, Provincial Secretary Irrigation Punjab Saif Anjum, MPA Ch. Mohammad Ikram, Sialkot DCO Dr. Asif Tufail, Sialkot DOC Malik Abid Awan, Assistant Commissioner Sambrial Dr. Rani Hafsa Kanwal, Administrator Sialkot TMA Adnan Mehmood Awan, District Emergency Officer Rescue 1122 Sialkot Syed Kamal Abid , Deputy Director Public Relations Sialkot Malik Ghulam Abbas Awan, President Community Development Concern (CDC) Abdul Shakur Mirza, senior officials of the Irrigation and Highways departments also attended the meeting.
