Need stressed for disease awareness

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Monday said that fatal diseases like hepatitis and breast cancer are spread fast and it is the need of the hour that a big awareness program should be launched in all public and private hospitals.

This he said during his visit to the Ojha Campus of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) here. Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof Dr Masood Hameed Khan heads of other departments were also present.

On this occasion, VC DUHS told provincial minister that 100-bed hospital for liver transplantation would start functioning soon, while 500-bed hospital for treatment of various diseases has already been working.

Jam Mehtab visited total Lab automation, T.B.OPD, Nursing Institute, Learning Resources Centre, Multi Disciplinary Lab, Employees Colony, Molecular Pathology Lab and other parts of institution.

He was informed that Dow University was consisted of 130 acres and daily 5000 patients visit it treatment. The latest technology is being used for liver transplantation. As many as 4000 lab tests are being conducted daily while its capacity would be increased up to 24000 lab tests per day. He was further informed that presently 35 PhDs were working in Dow University.

Health minister said Ojha is one of the best institutions in the country and Dow University and hospital services should be extended to all districts of Sindh. He said government is ready to provide all kinds of help to the institution.
