Karachi: Ear, Nose & Throat Outpatient Department (OPD) of Civil Hospital Karachi has become non-functional since last several months due to non-serious attitude of senior doctors who even could not bother to attend the visiting patients despite their presence in hospital during rush hours.

A senior official of Civil Hospital Karachi on condition of anonymity said professor, assistant professor and other senior doctors had not been attending the patients at ENT OPD with different diseases on daily basis.

He said senior doctors generally came to hospital for duty at 12:00am against the duty timing of 9:00am and not attend ENT OPD for unknown reasons.

He said patients were being attended by house job officers due to their absence. He said around 200 to 300 patients visit ENT OPD every day for treatment and face trouble due to doctors absent.

He said In-charge ENT OPD Department Prof Umer Farooq could not visit department since last several months, while Dr Iqbal remained absent from OPD. He said patients were being handled by house job officers and PG doctors in rush hours. He said doctors made lame excuses of not attending the patients like shortage of beds in ENT ward and increasing number of patients.

The patients were being asked by staff to get treatment from private hospitals and other public healthcares due to absence of specialist doctors.

Medical Superintendent, CHK, Dr Muhammad Saeed Qureshi was not available for comment on phone.
