KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhter Farooqui said the municipal administration in Karachi in collaboration with air force authorities would take all possible measures for improving sanitation condition, especially eradication of birds considered dangerous for air traffic at and around the air bases.

Particularly on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, necessary measures will be taken for lifting and burial of offal of sacrificial animals under the scientific method so that air traffic should not have to face any trouble due to the flying birds.

He said this while speaking in a meeting of the committee for the eradication of flying birds at air bases in Masroor Airbase on Monday which was also attended by the base commanders and other air force officials along with the officers of KMC, District Municipal Corporations, Karachi Police and District Administration.

Administrator Karachi said they all had to solve that issue with joint efforts. The air bases were today encircled by slums where it was hard to provide the civic services. Due to the shortage of resources, only 40 percent out of total 16,000 tons of garbage was lifted by the municipal corporations in the city.

He said a monthly cleanliness drive was being launched in the province from today on the directive of the provincial minister for local government Sharjeel Inam Memon during which all the garbage and waste would be removed and disposed off to improve the sanitation condition.
