PAF’s lady pilot killed as trainer jet crashes near Mianwali

KARACHI: Pakistani Air Force’s (PAF) lady pilot was killed on Tuesday when a trainer jet crashed near Mianwali during routine operational training.

Squadron Leader Saqib Abbasi and Flying Officer Marium Mukhtiar were on a routine operational training mission when their jet encountered in-flight emergency. Both the pilots ejected after which the aircraft crashed near Kundian in Mianwali district.

PAF Flying Officer Marium Mukhtiar, aged 24, became the first female pilot to have killed on a mission when a PAF trainer jet crashed near Kundian. A PAF FT-7PG was on a routine operational training mission when it encountered an in-flight emergency during the final stages of the mission. Both pilots handled the emergency with professionalism and courage and tried to save the aircraft till the last minute.

They ejected from the aircraft and suffered injuries. They were being treated at a nearby military hospital, where Mukhtiar succumbed to her injuries. However, the male officer, Abbasi sustained injuries.
