Pakistan finishes at 12th spot in Asian Cadet Judo Championship

Karachi: Pakistani judoka Iftikhar Ahmad fell in quarterfinals of Under 55 weight category as Pakistan finished at 12th spot in 9th Asian Cadet Judo Championship, underway in Bangkok, Thailand.

Pakistan judo team consisted of three judokas namely Iftikhar Ahmad, Nadeem Akram and Wajahat Sarwar along with their coach Sajjad Kazemi participated in 9th Asian Cadet and 16th Junior Judo Championship 2015.

Ranked 131 in the international circuit, Iftikhar, who qualified for the quarterfinals, lost his match on Wednesday against Uzbekistan’s Tojiev Arslonbek, ranked 48th. Iftikhar secured seventh position.

In Junior Under 73 Kg event, debutant Nadeem Akram lost his match to experienced Japanese opponent, who went on to clinch top position.

Hopes were high from Wajahat Sarwar but he fell in the second round. Over all Wajahat Sarwar secured seventh position.

In 9th Asian Cadet event, Pakistan overall secured 12th position while in 16th Junior Judo Championship, the team ended at 14th position.
